On Thursday we met with our third grade buddies for some reading and watched the move The Incredibles to celebrate the end of March is Reading Month!
In writers workshop we have continued our work writing how to books! Students made sure they practiced their steps across their fingers and pointing to each box to make sure their steps are in the correct order. We also worked on a good bye book for Taylor who is moving over our spring break.
In readers workshop we continued our work with informational books. We began learning more about the text features of informational books. We learned about a couple of different ways words can be used to teach more in pictures- labels, a diagram, and also captions. We looked for these text features in our books as we were reading.
With math this week we learned the math game bears in a cave, which involves starting with a set number of bears in front of the cave, moving some inside the cave, and finding how many are left outside. This game helps build fluency of partners within a number and also builds a concrete understanding of subtraction and story problems. We also did a sort where students picked their own sorting rule. Some students sorted into 2 groups and some into 3 groups.
We began the poem, My Monster, which highlights the sight word has and practices differentiating between me and my.
